Vintage postcards of geishas were the inspiration for this series; the nostalgic quality of the photographic portraits evokes an emotional response, while the delicacy of the textiles is conveyed by the distressed textures and colours of the foregrounds.
Folded paper collages were the starting point for the origami style pattern elements; three dimensional structures become two dimensional prints.
Shadows cast and patterns revealed by the transparent areas bring back the images into three dimensions, thus completing the cycle.
This idea is taken further by the addition of actual folded papers behind certain images.
