DEVORE COURSES

In conjunction with the Michelangelo Foundation and the Homo Faber guide I am now offering Dévoré masterclasses of one or two days in my studio near Biarritz in the south west of France. For more details please go to the Homo Faber Guide Experiences page here or message me using the contact page.

EXPERIMENTS FOR HOMO FABER, VENICE

I have been working on prototypes for a submission for the Homo Faber event “The Journey of Life”. I decided to look at the concept of travel scarves; by treating them with various textile techniques they are transformed from nostalgic souvenirs into textile art with a poignant message about global warming. Because my vintage scarves are silk I had to scan them in and have them re- printed digitally on a silk cotton mix suitable for dévoré. I visualize them being displayed both as wall hangings and on mannequins. The fabrics were dip dyed , silk screen printed, dévoréd and fixed.

LANDSCAPES

I am currently working on a series of landscape pieces, working from my photos taken in the Alps and the Pyrenees where I live. Dip dyed fabrics reflect the changing colours on the horizon, while the surface is erased to reveal structural elements below the surface. Disappearing images depict melting snow, erosion, and landslides in an increasingly fragile world.
